Epigenomics and BIOBASE combine Bioinformatics capabilities
Date:  Wednesday, 06.10.1999
Press release, Berlin

Epigenomics and BIOBASE announce a collaboration that aims at combining the two companies\' bioinformatics expertise for discovering the role of cytosine methylation in promoter structure and gene regulation. Epigenomics will use the result from the collaboration for the prediction of global gene expression patterns from methylation data. The company has developed a technology that allows the analysis for methylation of thousands of promoter sequences per experiment from minute tissue samples. BIOBASE will augment its databases with information on gene regulation derived by epigenetic information technology. Epigenomics\' CIO Christian Piepenbrock stated: \"We are extremely delighted to partner with BIOBASE. This alliance will further strengthen our ability to establish digital phenotypes as the standard classification tool for cells and tissues.\"

Epigenomics is a young, growth-oriented biotech company, offering a unique technology platform. Epigenomics aims at introducing the first routine diagnostics based on molecular biology for complex genetic disease into clinical reality on a global scale. Epigenomics pioneers the massive collection of epigenetic information for a description of cells and individuals by digital phenotypesTM. With its technology Epigenomics will be a leader in the revolution towards tomorrow\'s personalized medicines.

BIOBASE, based in Braunschweig, Germany, develops databases and software aimed at analyzing transcription regulation, one of the fundamental mechanisms in biology. BIOBASE is a private company and was established in 1997 at the National Research Center for Biotechnology Ltd. (GBF). BIOBASE offers worldwide a unique portfolio of databases including the TRANSFAC database.
