Extracting the mRNA of a cell gives information about the genes that are currently being read (expressed) and, consequently, of the proteins needed in a cell. However, mRNA in a lab is very unstable and difficult to store.. Since it cannot be properly amplified and a minimum amount of mRNA is required to discover it, relatively large patient samples must be taken.
